Child and Youth Outpatients Unit

Created for the Child & Youth Unit at Te Whare Tūroro o Tauranga, this immersive mural transforms the waiting and clinical spaces into a vibrant celebration of Aotearoa’s native environment. The artwork features layered native forest landscapes filled with recognisable flora and fauna, including tūī, kererū, ruru, kiwi and tuatara, alongside nīkau, harakeke, ferns and other native plant life. More than 25 creatures and botanical details are hidden throughout the mural, creating an interactive ‘search and find’ experience designed to spark curiosity and provide a positive distraction for children and whānau while they wait for appointments.

Flowing across multiple walls and the connecting corridor, the mural brings colour, nature and a sense of wonder into the clinical environment, creating a welcoming and engaging space for the children, families and staff who use it.
